ReffingAnyone can ref.Beginners are advised to avoid this for the moment. Reffing comes broadly in two forms that will be mentioned here: Live ReffingAnyone can write a scenario and hold a free form. Obviously you'll need to plug your game on the mailing list, sort out a venue, get a date to run it on etc. Then the players will turn up and away you go. At the end, a report needs to hit the email refs so that they can then make adjustments to the game world. A game that you ref is YOUR game. If you want to roll dice or play paper-scissors-stone then we are not going to stop you. If you want to do a freeform method acting fest that's fine too. Tailor your game to your group and invite people. Please ensure that you write a brief synopsis of what you are looking to achieve and submit it to the email refs. Whilst we will usually allow anything, Great C'thulhu appearing in Milton Keynes is probably going to be out. If you plan to do something nasty - such as an assassination attempt on someone, you are advised to check the plotline out with another ref. Email reffingThis is all about the adjudication of email based actions and the control of NPCs. If you want to get involved with this then ask. However, there are very few secrets left in the world once you decide to get involved with this sort of thing.I advise people to try playing the game for a bit first, Then try your hand at something live, and then if you are really into the stuff look at doing the full time email thing. Running a local gameThis is a good place to start and practice at the skills that you will need if you want to get into the national scheme. Pick a city - ideally the one that you can convince another player to be prince of, or use their one from the national game if they agree. Then find some players (6 to 10 should do). Then look at together creating some characters to be the court of that city, and then game away. Remember that plots can be linked both ways - but try not to kill the Prince off unless the player of the prince is agreeable to it. Many of the national players will be happy to play smaller characters given enough warning. If you find that you can handle the local game, you'll then find that moving on to national reffing is a smooth step. I'm not going into great deal on local stuff here. Grab me in the pub sometime. No one is obliged To ref anything. People that do ref do us all a great service in that they take a lot of time and effort out to put a game on. Many people ref for the first time as well, be supportive of them. Remember that this is a game at the end of the day. We have signed up for 'In Character' politics, but none of us have for 'Out Of Character' politics. Play nice. It's a game, it's for fun!
